a good presentation image is more than just a good photograph or illustration due to it needing to match your message. Like telling a good joke, an effective image needs good setup and good delivery. positioning of the image can show relevance to your topic due to it having the ability to express the message verbally or facially.
does your approach support rich imagery?
analogies or metaphors can cause your audience to remember the message more than they would if you gave them basic text. they can be seen as more memorable visuals.
try one idea or key point per slide. whilst you present the idea within the slide your images must link to the message your trying to explain. sometimes use several images to build up to the main message. such as here are how things are, here as what things could be.
image uniqueness
- does your image stand out?
- is it going to capture the attention of the audience?
the subject of the photo can be unique followed by the composition of it. uniqueness is what will grab the audiences attention due to them not seeing it before. the subject of the photo is the main point of the image. always avoid used images due to them being so common that audiences have seen them before and become bored when seeing them.
unexpected application is way to draw the audiences attention.
using a photo that has playful images which surprises the audience will grab their attention.
realistic vs fake.
keep your images real not what you think would be the perfect picture of the situation. also exaggeration can be good however as long as it is not too out of proportion. focus on people. audiences respond more to images with peoples facial expressions due to it being something they do.
put several images together to portray a story, sometimes with no text at all, some images speak louder than words. finally evoke an emotion, use images that brand heart warming emotion due to the audience liking the feeling of being inspired.
humor
humor is a good way to engage the audience, especially with funny images that will make them like the presentation due to finding it funny.
composition
- Asymmetry can be interesting when making photos. most asymmetry photos come with the rule of thirds. images together that link and also are position them next to each other will draw the audiences eye from one image to the other. empty space!! it leaves a great part of your image to have clear text.
- Point of view can make a picture more appealing than what it actually is, enhancing its appearance.
- Perspective can make an image have a deeper meaning which will inspire the audience.
- Crop images to make the image consist of exactly what you want to be in the image.
- Background subjects can be engaging for the audience, putting the message on a white background can give an instant message for your audience that they will understand.
- Focus or depth of field: focus on something within the image which stands out from the rest of the things within the image. focusing picks them out and blurs the background.
- Framing, a photographer can use the frame to add feel of depth which makes the image more interesting and unique. when we look past something, we are naturally drawn to what is past it.
- Action or motion: a photo that captures movement but can still understand that it is moving clearly.
- Repetition can emphasize a key point and colorful images can catch the eye of your audience.
